DIY Sensory Bags

If you’re a mom in 2017, you may have heard of sensory play. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction. Sensory bags are a great option for sensory play and they are fun and easy to make. The best part is you probably have everything you need at home already!

Supplies:

  • Freezer bags

  • Duct tape

  • Filling:

  • Base – water beads, hair gel, glitter glue, shaving cream

  • Fun stuff – Pom poms, foam stickers, leaves, googly eyes, any trinket without sharp or pointy edges (you can get a lot of these items at the Dollar Store and they have Disney items as wellthat your little one will love).

Creating Sensory Bag:

  1. Take the freezer bag and fill it 2/3 full of one of the “base” filling options listed above.

  2. Add one or more of the “fun stuff” filling options.

  3. Seal majority of the bag and let out the air

  4. Seal the ret of the bag and secure it closed with duck tape.

  5. Time to play!

Little hands love these sensory bags!

These little bags have been a great tool for our toddler to promote speech development by expanding her sense of touch, creativity, and adventure. What colors so you see? Does the bag feel cold or squishy? How many eyes can you count? Again, these bags are so fun for the kiddos and easy to make with little clean up!

*** Due to the contents and small items, parents should ALWAYS supervise their little ones when playing with these bags. ***

Have fun mama’s!

Hi! I’m Vanessa! I am a former pediatric nurse and recently transitioned into being a stay at home mom to two little ones.
